What is Fruitport Travel, and why
now?
There are
a significant number of players available that
already either play travel, or are ready to embark
on a more competitive level of play a step up from
recreation. Our aim is to continue to work together
with the FRUITPORT SOCCER CLUB so all players have a
place to play which compliments their ability and
commitment level. We want to give Fruitport players
the opportunity to play with classmates at “home” if
they so choose. Some may want to stay with the
Lakers or Tri-City Strikers, but we wanted to offer
this opportunity before commitments must be made
with other clubs.
What is the Commitment?
Travel
teams practice twice per week and play an 8 game
regular season on Saturdays, Sundays, and an
occasional weekday. Away games are generally not
more than 1 hour away. Weekend tournaments will also
be scheduled depending on the level and interest of
players. All players will be expected to
purchase their own uniforms at Just For Kicks. A
complete uniform (white and blue jerseys, blue
shorts and white and blue socks) is under$ 100.
Teams are put together for both Fall and Spring
seasons. Exceptions to this (other than High School
teams) must be approved. Because of the level of
play, all players should get playing time, but equal
playing time is not guaranteed.
What will tryouts be like?
We will
attempt to rate players mostly on their technical
skills (ability to pass and receive, use both feet,
etc.). Other areas of consideration include: speed
of play, finishing, and defending in small-sided
situations.
Where do we register?
You will
be notified within 14 days after the tryout if you
will be invited to join one of the teams. Players
will then be notified of the registration process.
If
there are insufficient numbers of players
interested and capable
in playing at a particular level, we may not sponsor
a team for that level or we may solicit interested,
qualified and capable players that did not try out..
